APOLLO Patron God of Delphi God of music, art, prophecy, and the sun. His symbol is the lyre.
Apollo and Delphi When Apollo came of age, his father, Zeus, assigned him a task to do. Zeus told Apollo to claim Delphi for the Olympian Gods. Apollo battled the guardian of Delphi, a giant dragon like snake, called Python. After that the Pythian or oracle of Delphi, became the voice of the Gods of Olympus.
Pythia, the Oracle
The oracle sat on a high seat in a room at the very end of Apollo's temple. After asking the prophetess a question, she went into a trance and spoke her message in verse, poem, or riddle-like fashion. Afterwards, the visitors could sit outside the temple, looking out to the beautiful vista below to ponder the meaning of her words!
